Activation Week

Congratulations on arriving at Week 11. This week, you have the opportunity to put into practice everything you have been learning about the Great Commission, evangelism, and discipleship. Instead of meeting in a class, you will will gather with the rest of your group to go out together to an agreed upon place. There, you will divide into teams of 2-4 and proceed to meet individuals with whom you can share the gospel.

If you don’t know where to go, contact your class facilitator to get information.

Some Helpful Reminders

1. Pray

Prayer is where all activity begins. As you travel to your location for evangelism, as you get into groups, and as you arrive, be sure to be active in prayer. Pray with hopeful anticipation that God is going to do something wonderful in you and in those you share Jesus with. Pray for the lost to hear and believe. Pray that people will find freedom and healing through Jesus.

When you arrive on site, anticipate that there will be people you need to pray for, either in a general way, or for them to receive spiritual freedom or physical healing.

2. Tell God’s Story

Use the 3 Circles method learned in Week 8 to share the good news of Jesus in a way that meets the concerns and needs of those you speak with. Remember that the arc of the story begins with God’s good design of a world of love and goodness. We fled from that love and goodness by sin, but God has enabled us to repent from sin and believe in the work of Jesus. That leads us back into a world of peace, love, and joy as Jesus brings us back into communion and fellowship with God.

3. Tell Your Story

Briefly tell a person what Jesus has done for you. In a few brief words, what sins and troubles afflicted you before you met Jesus? What was the impact on yourself and others of your sin? How did you encounter Jesus? What is your life like now?

4. Invite Faith in Jesus and Begin Discipleship

When you share the gospel and your testimony with someone, invite them to respond to Jesus with faith and repentance from sin, receiving the grace of God freely. If they choose to follow Jesus, celebrate their salvation with them. Remember that this moment marks the beginning of a new journey, not the end. We are called not only to share the gospel, but to walk with people as they become disciples of Jesus.

Invite them to continue meeting with you in a relational setting where you can begin sharing the first steps of following Jesus together. This means opening your life to them and helping them grow through practices such as repentance, baptism, prayer, gathering with other believers, reading the Scriptures, worship, and caring for the poor. A great way to do this is to invite them into a Bible study with you and, if possible, to attend church with you. These practices are not a burden, but ways we learn to live in the freedom and love Christ gives.
